Graham Fry Demolition, of Westwood Derbyshire, has recently added a new Hyundai 500LC-7A, 50 tonne tracked excavator to its fleet. This brings the number of Hyundai's operated by Fry Demolition to 9. The Hyundai excavator was supplied by the Hyundai Dealer for the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the North East of England, E P Industries of Pye Bridge, Derbyshire. The machine was supplied with a 9.0 metre boom, a 3.38 metre dipper and with 700 mm track plates. "The fact that we now have 9 Hyundai excavators, including our new 50 tonne machine, speaks for itself..." The Hyundai 500LC-7A is powered by an advanced Cummins QSM11 diesel engine that is Tier 3 (emissions) compliant and equipped with a powerful electronic control module (ECM) that governs the timing and metering of the fuel to the engine reducing consumption and emissions. The 50 tonne Hyundai, a dash 7A model, has an advanced hydraulic system that maintains engine and pump power an optimum levels for the task in hand. The operator can set one of two pre-set modes, power or heavy duty work, or set his own 'preferable power setting'. The hydraulic system also features a ‘power boost’ control that increases digging power by 10% when activated.
Five of the Fry Demolition Hyundai’s, including the new 500LC-7A, are currently working for Balfour Beatty demolishing old school buildings in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. The 50 tonne machine was purchased specifically for this job and it will spend the next few weeks ripping up the concrete slabs which will be crushed on-site before the material is recycled. For excavating the machine is equipped with a 2.4 m wide, 3.6 cu m bucket with teeth. The Hyundai 500LC-7A is also equipped to take a large demolition shear with supplementary hydraulics fed down the dipper.
Managing Director Graham Fry had this to say about his recent purchase "The fact that we now have 9 Hyundai excavators, including our new 50 tonne machine, speaks for itself. Demolition is a tough application for any machine and so we’re always careful with what we buy. Our oldest Hyundai excavator is two years old and it’s been a reliable workhorse. The operators like the machines, which is important, the machines perform well, they are economical to run and they’ve been very reliable. E P Industries provide excellent support when we need it, which isn’t very often!"
