Darrington Quarries is a part of the Waste Recycling Group which is one of the leading quarry and waste management services companies in the UK. WRG is owned by the Spanish construction and services group, Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC). Darrington Quarries recently purchased a Hyundai 450 LC-7A tracked excavator for their Limestone quarry at Barnsdale Bar, adjacent to the A1 near Pontefract in Yorkshire, from the Hyundai Dealer for the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the North East of England, E P Industries of Pye Bridge, Derbyshire. The 450 LC-7A, delivered in March 2008, joins a Hyundai HL 770-7 that has worked at the quarry for nearly 2 years. Barnsdale Bar produces around 2,000 tonnes of crushed stone per day for general construction use.
“EP Industries provide excellent support and back up when required!” Lenny Archer; Quarry Manager The 45 tonne excavator is used to load blasted limestone into a crusher at the face. Equipped with a standard dipper and a 1.6 metre wide bucket with teeth the excavator works a 10 hour day loading out.
The Hyundai HL 770-7 wheeled loader is used in a variety of jobs including loading crushed stone into road going trucks and in a load and carry application from the face to a crusher, with a travel distance of 300 metres.
Quarry Manager Lenny Archer had this to say about the Hyundai machines in his quarry…….”We use a variety of equipment here from the leading makes and our two Hyundai’s are as good as any of them. They are reliable, excellent performers and the operators like them. The cabs are comfortable, have good heating and ventilation and the controls have ‘good feel’. They are also economic to run and give good fuel consumption which is increasingly important. EP Industries provide excellent support and back up when required!”
